 Meditation is a very simple method to be aware of our actions. Meditation means alertness in our actions and living in the present moment. Any action done with alertness is meditation. By alertness, we mean that we are fully conscious while doing our actions. Meditation is the another name of staying in this present moment and living life moment to moment.

Most of time we are either thinking about the past or future but very rarely we stay in this present moment. Meditation is the art of staying in this present moment and doing our day to day actions with full alertness. e.g. when we are eating pizza then our total attention is on eating rather than on any past and future events. This looks very easy and many people might say that I do it every day. But in reality very rarely we stay in the present moment.

Our life is controlled by our mind and mind has this habit of moving to past or the future. Mind can never stay in this present moment. So the whole art of meditation is to bring our attention in this present moment and being more alert. In reality we are just enough awake to do our duties skillfully. But when we start meditating then we realize that how much sleepy we used to be in our life. Meditation is an upward journey to be more conscious, more aware or more alert in our actions.

In simple words, Meditation means to be more aware of our actions, thoughts, feelings and emotions. Any action done with awareness or full alertness is meditation. We don't need to sit cross-legged with eyes closed to practice meditation. But to learn the knack of meditation, it is better if we practice meditation by sitting closed eyes and practicing any meditation technique in the beginning. Once we have learn the art of meditation, then it becomes a part of every daily activity.

Meditation can be practiced by person of any age, caste, religion or profession. What really requires is strong determination to learn meditation, patience and regularity in practice.
